City water is treated with chlorine or chloramine to keep it safe on the way to your house. That can leave a pool-like taste and smell in the water you drink, cook with, and shower in. A whole-home carbon filter takes care of it at every tap. The Softener Guy LLC installs carbon filtration for homes and small businesses on city water in Canal Fulton, Canton, North Canton, Massillon, Akron, and surrounding towns.
Signs a carbon filter could help
- Your water tastes or smells like chlorine
- Showers leave a chemical smell in the bathroom
- You filter drinking water in a pitcher but want every tap covered
How it works
The filter tank is filled with activated carbon. As water flows through, the carbon grabs chlorine and chloramine and reduces the taste and odor. Carbon can also reduce some chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Start with a free in-home water test
Every job starts with a free water test at your house. We confirm whether you're on treated city water and check hardness too, since many homes do best with a carbon filter and a softener together. We explain the results in plain words and only recommend what your water actually needs.
What install looks like
The filter goes on the main line where water comes into the house, so every faucet, shower, and appliance gets filtered water. If you have a softener or want one, we set the two up to work together.
Upkeep
Carbon wears out over time, and the filter media gets replaced when it's used up. We'll tell you what to expect for your water and household.
Common questions
- Is carbon filtration for well water?
- It's mainly for city water. For wells with iron, sulfur smell, or bacteria, we look at AIO filters, injection systems, or UV instead.
- Does a carbon filter soften water?
- No. Carbon handles taste and smell. A softener handles hardness. Many homes use both.
