Private wells can pick up bacteria, and a water test may show coliform or E. coli. An ultraviolet (UV) light system treats that water for the whole house without adding chemicals. The Softener Guy LLC installs UV systems for homes and small businesses on wells around Canal Fulton and across Stark, Summit, and Wayne counties.
When UV makes sense
- A water test came back positive for coliform or E. coli
- You're on a private well and want added peace of mind
- You'd rather not add chemicals or change the taste of your water
How it works
Water flows through a chamber past a UV lamp. The light inactivates bacteria and viruses so they can't multiply. Nothing is added to the water, so there's no chemical taste or smell.
Start with a free in-home water test
Every job starts with a free water test at your house. We look at iron, hardness, and cloudiness, because UV works best on clear water. If those are present, we'll explain what should go in front of the UV system. We explain the results in plain words and only recommend what your water actually needs.
What install looks like
The UV unit goes on the main water line, usually after any softener, iron filter, or sediment filter so the light gets clear water. It needs a power outlet nearby. We install it and show you what to watch for.
Upkeep
The UV bulb needs to be replaced from time to time to keep working as it should, and the glass sleeve around it should be kept clean. We can walk you through it.
Common questions
- Does UV remove iron or smell?
- No. UV handles bacteria and viruses. Iron and smell are handled by an AIO filter or injection system, often installed ahead of the UV.
- Does UV change the taste?
- No. Nothing is added to the water.
