Hard water is common across Canal Fulton and the rest of Stark, Summit, and Wayne counties, whether the house is on a private well, city water, or a community well. The Softener Guy LLC installs new water softeners and replaces worn-out ones for homes and small businesses. We are family owned, bonded and insured, and bring 19 years of experience to every install.
Signs you have hard water
- Spots on glasses, dishes, and silverware after washing
- White crust on the coffee pot, tea kettle, faucets, or shower door
- Shower heads and faucet aerators that clog up
- Clothes that feel stiff or still smell like detergent
- Soap and shampoo that don't lather well
How a softener works
A softener tank is filled with resin beads. As water passes through, the beads grab the calcium and magnesium that make water hard. Every so often the softener rinses the beads with salt water from the brine tank to clean them off, and the minerals go down the drain. You get softer water at every tap, and the water heater, dishwasher, and plumbing don't have to fight scale.
Twin-tank softeners
A twin-tank softener has two resin tanks that take turns. While one tank regenerates, the other keeps softening, so you have soft water around the clock, even during regeneration. It's a good fit for bigger families, homes with very hard well water, and small businesses that use a lot of water. The free in-home water test helps us figure out whether a single-tank or twin-tank softener fits your home.
Start with a free in-home water test
Every job starts with a free water test at your house. We check hardness and look for iron and other things that affect which softener fits, and we ask how many people live in the house so the unit is sized right. We explain the results in plain words and only recommend what your water actually needs.
What install looks like
The softener goes where the main water line enters the house, usually in the basement or utility room. We connect it, set it up for your water and household, and show you how it works before we leave. If an old softener is coming out, we take care of that too.
Upkeep
Keep salt in the brine tank and check it about once a month. When you add salt, break up any hard crust that forms. That's most of it. If something stops working, we also repair softeners.
Common questions
- Do I need a softener if I'm on city water?
- Many homes on city water around Canal Fulton and Canton still have hard water. The free test tells you for sure.
- Can you replace my old softener?
- Yes. We replace worn-out softeners and can also look at repairing the one you have if it's worth fixing.
- Do I need a twin-tank softener?
- Not always. A single-tank softener works well for many homes. A twin-tank model makes sense if you use a lot of water or have very hard water and want soft water around the clock. The free water test helps us recommend the right one.
