Air injection oxidizing filters

An air injection oxidizing filter, or AIO unit, treats well water for the whole house. It's our go-to for iron and bad smells on private wells around Canal Fulton, Lawrence Township, North Lawrence, Doylestown, Clinton, and other towns in Stark, Summit, and Wayne counties. We install AIO systems for homes and small businesses.

Our AIO systems

Every AIO filter cleans itself by backwashing, which means running water back through the tank to flush out what it caught. Your well has to deliver at least the backwash flow rate listed for that filter, or it cannot clean itself properly. That is why the free water test includes a flow check, so we can match the right system to your well.

  1. Low-flow AIO system: Needs only a 2.7 gallons per minute backwash rate. A good fit for wells with low flow or a weaker pump.
  2. Standard AIO system: 5.7 gallons per minute backwash rate. Our everyday system for typical iron and odor problems.
  3. Katalox AIO with Vortex tank: 6.5 gallons per minute backwash rate.
  4. Ozone-generating AIO systems: Use ozone as the oxidizer, for tougher iron and sulfur problems.

Signs you need an iron filter

  • Orange or rust-colored stains in sinks, tubs, toilets, and laundry
  • A rotten-egg or metallic smell in the water
  • Water that looks cloudy or tinted after sitting

How it works

The AIO tank keeps a pocket of air at the top. As water passes through that air, the iron and smell-causing gases oxidize, and the filter media below catches what's left behind. On a schedule, the filter backwashes to flush out what it caught and refresh the air pocket. No chemicals to add.

Start with a free in-home water test

Every job starts with a free water test at your house. We check iron, smell, and other things in the water, and we run a flow check on the well. Each AIO system needs a certain backwash flow to clean itself, so the flow check tells us which one fits. We explain the results in plain words and only recommend what your water actually needs.

What install looks like

The AIO goes on the main line after the pressure tank and ahead of a softener if you have one. It needs a drain for backwashing. We set the schedule for your water and show you how it runs.

Upkeep

An AIO system takes care of most of its own cleaning. We'll let you know what to keep an eye on for your system.

Common questions

Which AIO system will I need?
It depends on your water and how much flow your well can deliver for backwashing. The free test and flow check decide it.
What if my water is too tough for an AIO?
For tougher iron and sulfur, we offer ozone-generating AIO systems and chlorine or peroxide injection.
